The Twelve were chosen by Christ based on the grace of God, but although grace is free yet grace is not cheap.
Christ paid a high price for us to receive unmerited favour.
1 Peter 1:18-19 NIV
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
We must not frustrate the grace of God.
Galatians 2:21 NKJV
“I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”
We must live lives worthy of the calling we have received by grace.
Ephesians 4:1 NKJV
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,”
The apostles had to prove their loyalty to Christ.
1 Corinthians 4:2 NKJV
“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.”
They proved their loyalty when Jesus preached a controversial sermon.
John 6:60 NKJV
“Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?”
Many of Christ’s disciples became offended and left Him.
John 6:66 NKJV
“From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.”
The Twelve Apostles however remained loyal to Christ.
John 6:67-68 NKJV
“Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
May you prove yourself faithful as a good steward of the gifts of God. May you be a blessing to many, in Jesus’s name.
