By our human understanding we tend to categorise events and situations as either good or bad, but God works with all kinds of things to create His purpose.
Romans 8:28 NKJV
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
It is easy to say some of the things that happened to Joseph were bad things, but they worked together with other things to produce God’s plan.
Genesis 50:19-20 NKJV
“Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”
Mrs Potiphar falsely accusing Joseph of rape was bad and Potiphar angrily throwing Joseph into the dungeon without listening to his side of the matter, was also bad.
However God’s additions turned bad things into opportunities.
Philippians 1:12 NKJV
“But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,”
Satan meant Joseph to be thrown into prison to harm him, but God ensured that in that very prison, Joseph will meet the king’s butler who will later recommend him to Pharaoh.
The recommendation of the butler he met in prison gave him the chance to use his gift of interpreting dreams to help Pharaoh, and through that he became the ruler of Egypt.
Genesis 41:41 NKJV
“And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”
The passage of time and the divine addition of other things will always heal wounds, and reveal God’s purpose.
Psalms 30:5b NKJV
“Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
May God add His own things to every bitter thing in your life and work it for good. May you be blessed, in Jesus’s name.
