The birth of Christ and His early years was influenced by several remarkable dreams. Angel Gabriel carried a message to Mary.
Luke 1:26-27 NKJV
“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.”
The angel announced the birth of Christ.
Matthew 1:18 NKJV
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.”
Joseph naturally assumed that Mary had been unfaithful and decided to break off the engagement.
Matthew 1:19 NKJV
“Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.”
If a man betrothed to a woman accused her of fornication, the Law of Moses prescribed death by stoning, if the charge was proven.
Deuteronomy 22:20-21a NIV
“If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death…”
Joseph was a gentleman so he preferred to quietly divorce Mary, without preferring any charges against her.
God gave Joseph his first dream.
Matthew 1:20 NKJV
“But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”
•The purpose of this dream was to reassure Joseph, to go ahead with his marriage to Mary.
•The other purpose was to have Joseph become an earthly father to Christ.
•Another purpose was to let Joseph know the divine plan for Messiah’s birth.
May the Lord God reveal His plans and purposes to you. May you possess divine insights to guide you, in Jesus’s name.
