Daniel: 3
Rev Robert Ampiah-Kwofi

The first and most important commandment, was to abstain from idols.
Exodus 20:3 NKJV
“You shall have no other gods before Me.”

Daniel knew that he would have to abstain from all forms of idolatry.
Acts 15:29 NKJV
“that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.

Food and sex were the two main means of enticing innocent people to indulge in idolatry.
Revelation 2:14 NKJV
“But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.“

Food in particular was very effective in drawing Israel into idolatry, because it appears by itself so harmless. The Moabites invited the hungry Israelites to eat.
Numbers 25:1-2 NKJV
“Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab. They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.”

Daniel determined in his heart, that he would not eat the polluted food, and he asked to be excused.
Daniel’s request created a crisis.
Daniel 1:10 NKJV
“And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who are your age? Then you would endanger my head before the king.”

Daniel had faith to support his holiness.
He proposed a ten day trial.
Daniel 1:12 NKJV
“Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.”

After ten days Daniel and his company were better off.
Daniel 1:15 NKJV
“And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies.”

May your faith produce miracles of grace. May your face shine with God’s glory. May God’s blessing be visible on you, in Jesus’s name.
