Apostolic Patience: 32
Rev Robert Ampiah-Kwofi

Apostle Paul believed that he had suffered enough, so that the Galatians should not add any more trouble to his burdens.
Galatians 6:17 NKJV
“From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.”

Paul had scars upon his body which had been inflicted by his persecutors.
2 Corinthians 11:24-25a NKJV
“From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned;”

Apart from receiving 39 lashes from the Jews on five occasions, we also know of at least one time he was whipped by Gentiles.
Paul and Silas were whipped in Philippi.
Acts 16:22 NKJV
“Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.”

They were whipped because they cast out a spirit of divination that had enabled a girl to tell the future fortunes of men.
Acts 16:23 NKJV
“And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.”

God shook the foundations of their prison in response to their prayers and praises.
Acts 16:26 NKJV
“Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.”

The jailer thought the prisoners had escaped and was about to kill himself but Paul stopped him.
Acts 16:28 NKJV
“But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

The jailer received the Lord and took Paul to his house and treated his wounds.
Acts 16:33a NKJV
“And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes..”

All these stripes left scars on Paul’s body.

May you have grace to serve the Lord Jesus. May you have rest and peace from all unnecessary troubles, in Jesus’s name.
