The gospel preached by Christ Jesus was a prophetic gospel, because it looked forward to His future death and resurrection.
John 3:14-15 NKJV
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
The “lifting up” of Jesus, is a reference to Him being crucified on a cross.
John 12:32-33 NKJV
“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” This He said, signifying by what death He would die.”
Peter, Stephen, Paul and indeed all Believers, preach the gospel that Christ’s death and resurrection, is an accomplished fact.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NKJV
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,”
The gospel is God’s saving message.
Romans 1:16 NKJV
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
The gospel was a controversial message because of the cross.
1 Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
The controversy of the cross was because it was the most shameful mode of death.
The Scriptures say it is a curse.
Deuteronomy 21:22 NKJV
“If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,”
Anyone hanged on a tree was accursed of God. Christ bore our curse for us.
Galatians 3:13 NKJV
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),”
May you walk in total liberty from all curses. May you never be ashamed of the gospel of Christ, in Jesus’s name.
