Paul and Barnabas were fully separated unto the Holy Ghost. Their ministerial companions took them through a “laying on of hands” ceremony.
Acts 13:3 NKJV
“Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.”
They were now totally free to do all that the Holy Ghost directed them to do. The Holy Ghost began to lead them on their apostolic missions from that moment.
Acts 13:4 NKJV
“So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.”
The Holy Ghost directed them to Cyprus which was Barnabas’s country. They began in Salamis, which was the principal city of Cyprus. It was located in the east of Cyprus.
Acts 13:5 NKJV
“And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.”
They traveled across the island to Paphos in the south western part of Cyprus. This is where they encountered Elymas the sorcerer, and where the apostles worked their first recorded miracle.
Their first miracle was an unusual miracle.
Acts 13:11 NKJV
“And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.”
And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.”
This was a miracle of judgment. Most miracle ministry involves healing the sick, but here they commanded Elymas the sorcerer, to go blind.
The “miracle of judgment” caused the proconsul to come to faith.
Acts 13:12 NKJV
“Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.”
Their ministry was having tremendous results in Cyprus.
May you experience tremendous success in all your endeavours. May you be directed and led by the Spirit, in Jesus’s name.
